THE League One title race is wide open as the half-way stage in the season nears - but Doncaster Rovers know they have to rectify their patchy home form to become genuine promotion contenders.

Although Rovers boast the best away record in the division, Dean Saunders men have yet to find any level of consistency at the Keepmoat Stadium.

In-form Coventry City put four past Rovers last weekend to condemn them to their fifth defeat in 11 matches on home soil. Three points would have taken the South Yorkshire club, who were relegated from the Championship last term, to the top of the pile for the first time.

Now fourth-placed Rovers, who have gone four matches without a win, are looking to get back on track when they entertain MK Dons this Saturday.

Managed by the highly-rated Karl Robinson, the Dons have gleaned 39 points from their 22 matches and are one place below Rovers in the table. The high fliers, who boast three former Sheffield Wednesday players in their ranks in Jon Otsemobor, Darren Potter and striker Ryan Lowe, who has struck three goals in his last four starts, head into the fixture, having notched six victories in a row at home.

Following their recent duel with AFC Wimbledon in the FA Cup, which the Dons edged 2-1, John Ryan, Rovers outspoken chairman, said they should drop the ‘Dons’ from their name and just become Milton Keynes FC.

“It goes against all principals and morals in the game of football,” he said. “Just think what would happen if my partners and I took Doncaster Rovers to Guildford.”
