DONCASTER Rovers’ four-match League One unbeaten run came thudding to a halt as they crashed 3-1 at home to Preston North End last night.

Rovers’ cracking away form continues to be in stark contrast to their performances at the Keepmoat where they have picked up only four points from a win and a draw in four games.

Manager Dean Saunders held a lengthy post-match inquest before coming out to speak to the media.

“It was a bad day at the office and we’ve got to roll our sleeves up and beat Shrewsbury on Saturday,” he said.

“They scored two goals from set-pieces and apart from when they hit the post in the first half their only other shot from open play was when they scored their third.

“We had enough chances to win several games but they got some great blocks in and we didn’t take the chances.

“You can play all the football you like and create chances but if you can’t defend corners anyone can beat you.

“We didn’t get going for the first 20 minutes. We missed James Harper and Iain Hume and I thought we looked flat at times.

“We played into their hands by not getting on to the ball enough.”

Despite some supporters urging him to make changes, Saunders stuck by his starting 11.

“I looked around and thought ‘How could I change it for the better’ but I couldn’t really,” he said.

The crowd of 5,681 was the club’s lowest league gate of the season.
