DONCASTER ROVERS: Skipper, Rob Jones ban hits Rovers
Research: But Rovers must concentrate on their own game rather than the opposition, says Chris Brown
DONCASTER Rovers will be without influential skipper Rob Jones in Saturday’s home game against Shrewsbury Town.
The former Owls centre-back will sit the game out after picking up his fifth booking of the season against Preston in midweek.
But striker Chris Brown remains optimistic that Rovers, who are likely to promote Shelton Martis from the bench, can get back on track.
Rovers haven’t played the Shrews since their ill-fated 1997-98 Division Three campaign when honours were shared.
Brown admits that until the squad is briefed in the build-up to the game he knows little about Saturday’s opponents.
“I always think it’s more about what we do,” he told The Star. “It doesn’t matter who we are playing.
“You’d like to think that no matter who we are playing that if we are playing well, and on the top of our form, that we’d give anyone a game.
“I try and do research on the players that I’m likely to be playing against and the gaffer informs us what type of players they are and the best way to play against them.”
Rovers go into the game having lost for the first time in five league games in midweek leaving them with just four points out of a possible 12 at the Keepmoat Stadium.
“Teams are coming here with a game-plan like Crawley and Stevenage recently and they were difficult to break down. Most teams will think that a draw here would be a good result for them.
“It might be tougher this year at home because of that but it is up to us. We’ve got to work out how to beat them.
“We’ve got a lot of attacking players in the team who can wins us games.
“You have to win most of your home games if you are going to make any impact.”
If the club’s home form is giving cause for concern, not so their away record.
“We are playing pretty well away from home and we’re defending as a team,” said Brown.
“The balls are going into the box and obviously the lads are heading them away. We are also working hard in midfield and up front. The gaffer is very keen on the work ethic.
“We’ve only lost one away from home and we’ve just got to make sure that continues.
“At the same time we’ve got to start picking up more points at home.”
