CHAMPIONS Doncaster RLFC will celebrate the club’s most successful season ever in style this weekend - with an open top bus parade through town.

The Dons were granted a civic reception by Doncaster mayor Peter Davies after winning both the Co-operative Championship One league title and Grand Final.

That reception will take place on Saturday at Mansion House - with players and officials to arrive on an open top bus.

The bus will leave the Keepmoat Stadium at 11.15am before setting off along Lakeside Boulevard, Gliwice Way, Bawtry Road, Bennetthorpe, South Parade, Wood Street, Printing Office Street, Priory Place and High Street before arriving at Mansion House for 11.30am.

Mayor Davies and Dons chief executive Carl Hall will address the crowd before heading inside for the civic reception.

The Dons will have plenty of silverware to parade on their journey into town.

Not only did the club win the ‘League leaders plate’ and Grand Final shield, but they also cleaned up at the annual RFL awards.

Coach Tony Miller was named Championship One coach of the year, Doncaster picked up the Championship One club of the year award, while star man Paul Cooke was the division’s player of the year and also collected the Northern Star award for his contribution to rugby league on and off the field.

Doncaster beat Barrow Raiders 16-13 in the Grand Final last month to cap a memorable season - just three years after the club were in administration and almost went bust.
