SHAREHOLDERS will meet tonight to discuss the future of Goole AFC on the back of yet another league defeat.

James Booker’s second-half penalty against Clitheroe was not enough to provide a comeback that the Vikings desperately need to rejuvenate their troublesome season so far, losing 2-1 at Victoria Pleasure Grounds.

Parties connected with Goole will be discussing its current position this evening as well as ideas for the future and the likely imminent sale of Des O’Hearne’s majority shareholding after the chairman stepped down this month due to ill health.

Goole, who have announced the signing of 20-year-old former FC Brussels and RSC Charleroi striker Richmond Boateng, welcomed the visit of high-flying Clitheroe hoping for the points that could lift Wayne Benn’s Vikings out of the depths of the division.

However, the visitors had other ideas and were keen to complete a league double over their counterparts - doing just that through Marcus Calvert and Simon Nangle goals.

The visiting Blues appeared comfortable, going into a 2-0 lead with Calvert’s second-half strike adding to Nangle’s free-kick inside the first two minutes which evaded the despairing dive of Goole keeper Neal May.

However, Booker (pictured) - who had earlier struck the woodwork - dispatched from the spot following a foul on substitute Dean Sidebottom, and that goal proved for a nervy final 20 minutes.

Derry Robson saw a curling effort cannon back off the post following a goalmouth scramble before Mark Baggaley had a powerful drive tipped over by Clitheroe’s Hakan Burton.

Sam Colbear then connected with a Booker corner but flicked the chance wide as Clitheroe came close through Louis Edwards in what was a frantic final few minutes between the two Evo-Stik Northern Premier First Division North sides.

The meeting to discuss the future of Goole AFC, who sit second from bottom in the table, will be held from 7pm at the Briarcroft Hotel in Clifton Gardens, Goole.
