Goole boss admits new faces needed
GOOLE AFC manager Karl Rose has admitted he needs new faces to bolster his squad following a humiliating setback at the weekend.
The Vikings suffered their biggest league defeat of the season when they were thumped 6-0 at promotion-chasing Witton Albion, a result which has plunged Roses's side into the bottom six - and severley dented their goal difference.
Five different scorers plundered the visitors' net last Saturday but although the mood is downbeat at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds there is still a comfortable 16 point cushion from the relegation places.
Rose picked over the bones of a truly forgettable afternoon.
He said: "We conceded three penalties, had two disallowed ourselves and had a man sent off. That didn't help and by half-time it should have been 1-1. They then scored and we had a goal disallowed for no reason and they had a penalty which was very debatable so we went in two down instead of one apiece."
A bad day at the office got considerably worse for Goole when defensive stalwart and assistant manager James Dudgeon was withdrawn after dislocating his shoulder, forcing Rose to plug gaps with players in unfamiliar positions.
He added: "We had a left back and a midfielder playing at centre-half and then hit the post, had two or three good chances but we didn't stick them in. They went up the other end, made it 3-0 and killed the game off. Another penalty and two goals in injury time, a real comedy of errors, but it wasn't a 6-0 result.
"It just shows we haven't got the strength in depth. Our starting 11 is as good as any in this league but we just aren't there yet."
Rose must now pick his players up for this Saturday's home game with Loughborough Dynamo, 3pm kick-off.
He said: "We are trying to get players in and hopefully we will have new faces for Saturday but it's hard at this stage of the season because the vast majority are playing week in and week out at other clubs. It will be hard to convince them to come to Goole when we have very little to play for."
l The club is hosting a race night at The Charter Club on Pasture Road on Friday, February 19, 7pm start.
Tickets cost 2.50, including buffet, and can be bought on the night or at the ground from Carol or Eric on match days.
