Goole players are ready for action

NEW GOOLE AFC assistant manager James Dudgeon has issued a rallying cry ahead of the glut of fixtures piling up.

The continued Arctic conditions led to the postponement of last weekend's trip to Carlton Town - the fourth consecutive game to be called off which means the Vikings have not played a competitive match for a whole month.

Dudgeon (29) was installed as manager Karl Rose's number two at the turn of the year and he admitted he was relishing the challenge.

He said: "We've now trained a couple of times but it's been a long lay-off and a lot of the lads live outside Goole. But the two sessions we've had have been really vibrant, the squad's ready to go and it's been too long to be off in the middle of the season."

Should the vice-like grip of winter lift in time for Saturday's scheduled home clash with Grantham Town, 3pm kick off, Rose must shuffle his pack in order to accommodate four suspensions.

Midfielders Daz Winters and Glyn 'Dot' Cotton join forward Micky Goddard in serving one-match bans with striker partner Adam Lee set to begin a three-match suspension.

"We are desperate for a game and ready to go, we've all enjoyed the snow but it's time to get back to it," added Rose.

And Dudgeon endorsed his boss as the side looks forward to the remainder of the season.

He added: "I have known Karl for a long time as a player and a friend and even before I saw him as a manager I had every confidence because of his drive, personality and character. He's a very determined person in all areas of his life and I know he will be a success."

Meanwhile Rose and captain Lee Stratford are looking forward to meeting fans at the latest 'meet the players/manager' event tonight.

They will be joined by goalkeeper Craig Parry and Goddard at the club bar from 8pm onwards.

The bar will be open for refreshments and a free buffet will be available in the interval.

Goole's four outstanding games have all been rearranged with the Vikings set to visit Brigg Town next Tuesday, January 19, for a 7.45pm kick off.

The home clash with Glapwell will now take place on Tuesday, January 26, 7.45pm start, and Loughborough Dynamo will visit the Victoria Pleasure Grounds on Saturday, February 13, 3pm start.

Carlton Town away has been reorganised for Saturday, March 13, 3pm kick off.
