Harkin silences partisan crowd in Cliffe-hanger

In a repeat of last season’s scoreline at Osbaldwick, Cliffe were indebted to keeper Dave Laverack for enabling them to come away with all three points in this York Minster Engineering League Division 2 clash.
But it was Chris Harkin (pictured in action left) who sealed a hard-earned win ten minutes from time.
Man of the match Laverack frustrated the hosts with some great saves, but the match-winning move started with Nathan Parker playing in Dave Reasbeck, who in turn squared to Kev Taylor. He managed to scramble the ball onto the inside of the post where, with the keeper stranded as the ball rolled loose, Harkin silenced the partisan crowd by smashing home through the defender on the line. And he had the ball in the net again, but was ruled offside.
Manager Keith Tiplady said: “If it wasn’t for a breathtaking performance from Laverack, the game would have been lost. We were pleased to come away with the result, but overall the performance must be improved upon.”
Stamford Bridge visit Oxen Lane on Saturday, kick-off 2.30pm.
Meanwhile Paul Fenton was man of the match as Cliffe Reserves opened their campaign with a disappointing 0-4 defeat by Crayke.
