Hemingbrough’s impressive cup run continues

IN-FORM Hemingbrough United advanced into the quarter finals of the East Riding County Cup following an extra-time win over Dunnington.

Boro dominated the opening stages which brought a well-deserved goal when Jamie Wheeler’s solo run found Jonny Wileman who flicked the ball into Guy May and he made no mistake.

Dunnington Reserves had several penalty appeals turned down as they pressed for an equaliser before taking the game into extra time with a goal in the dying minutes.

Boro made tactical changes which nearly paid off straight away when Darryl Tate burst through, however his chip nestled in the keeper’s hands. Luke Zacharenko also fired wide.

The game was heading for a penalty shoot-out until Craig Haythorne stepped up and struck a stunning effort past Dunnington’s keeper to fire Boro into the quarters.

The side return to league action on Saturday when they travel to face St Clements.

Meanwhile Boro’s second string were beaten by Selby RSSC Reserves following a late comeback in the derby day encounter.

Boro began well however failed to find a breakthrough and at the other end, shot-stopper Luke Allderidge was called into action on several occasions to keep the score down.

The hosts struck the opener after the restart when Ricki Hutton unleashed an unstoppable strike from 20 yards.

The visitors continued to pile on the pressure, however, were stifled by a number of smart saves from Allderidge and a goal-line clearance from Richard Ireland.

With 10 minutes remaining, Selby claimed a deserved equaliser when the ball was fired across goal and the unfortunate Dan Collins put it into his own net.

Spurred on by the leveller, Brassa struck the winner with five minutes to spare.

Boro’s reserves entertain Strensall on Saturday at the School Road playing fields.
