Teenage supercross ace Bradley Ward is making an impressive comeback as he gets back on track after being plagued by injury.

The 16-year-old former Snaith School pupil has twice needed surgery on his knee following a racing incident while still only eleven.

After missing two seasons, Bradley (also pictured below) made a tentative start on his Kawasaki 250 as he gradually recovered his fitness and suffered some heartache in a tough series of events, but kept his chin up.

And when he took delivery of a much bigger and brand new Kawasaki 450, he promptly won first time out and followed it up by qualifying for the final German international at Hozgerlingen, where he finished a very creditable 20th.

“It was a massive step up, and meant he had to move into the Masters/GP class which includes grand prix riders,” explained dad Andrew.

“He was in at the deep end and the youngest rider in the field by four years! It was a great achievement in such a competitive field.”

And though he came off his bike during a dogfight with five other riders in the second race, he finished alright to complete a great weekend.

Now a Selby College student, Bradley has had two operations to reconstruct his right knee. And after 18 months of hard work, rehabilitation and disappointment, he finally got back on a bike in February this year. At the time of his original injury, doctors didn’t want to operate until he was more fully developed.

“It’s dragged on for years,” added Andrew. “But he’s going well again – competing in supercross and outdoor motocross – and is planning on moving to America. He’s had a tough time, but sponsors have stood by him and he’s very determined.

“Thanks must go to Pontefract Hospital’s physio department, and also his surgeon Mr Cohen.”

Next up for Bradley are the winter indoor supercross races around Europe, starting in Holland in early November.
