A BADMINTON club is looking for more women players to join its ranks.

The Selby Jubilee Badminton Club meets at Brayton College, Doncaster Road, on Thursdays for club sessions with coaches as well as Monday matches from 7.30pm until 10pm.

The club, which began in 1977 and is run by its own members, has a range of players who represent teams in the York League and more women are needed.

The teams are currently positioned as follows:

* Mens A - Division 2 - positioned 5th of 7;

* Mens B - Division 3 - positioned 4th of 8;

* Mixed A - Division 2 - positioned 6th of 7;

* Mixed B - Division 4 - positioned 1st of 7;

* Ladies - Division 2 - positioned 5th of 5.

Club chairman Tim Rowson said: “Club nights are very relaxed, where we want to have a laugh, and play a bit of sport in friendly company.

“Two members are qualified coaches and will give advice to anyone who wants it. On a club night we all take turns to play, and try to mix up abilities so everyone benefits.

“Everyone is very welcome to come along and see if they like the club.

“There is no charge for the first night. After that you can play as a visitor for £1 per hour, but after three nights we ask that people discuss with the coaches whether they should join or come to dedicated coaching sessions (club fees will also be explained). This is only to ensure that we can help the pure beginners to learn the basics. Afterall, we were all beginners once.”
