New Howden club inters pyramid system

A RECENTLY-MERGED club has gained access to the Humber Premier Leage (HPL) for the 2010/11 season.

Howden AFC received the good news when its election to the HPL Division One - six rungs below the Carling Premiership - was confirmed on Monday evening.

The club is hoping to run four senior teams in addition to junior teams from under-six to under-15 level and two veteran sides for over-35s.

Previously two clubs operated in the Howden area, an amateur side with one senior team plus Howden Town which had both a junior and senior outfit.

Both clubs recently merged and Howden AFC secretary Keith Tinkler said the move made "common sense" from a footballing perspective.

He added: "We are all under one banner and pulling in the same direction now, football from six to 60 is our motto basically.

"We applied to the Humber Premier League and they made sure our facilities were up to scratch and we got voted in. Now we're in this league it establishes the club as one of the more senior teams in the area, the only other really is North Cave.

"We have done the hard bit in getting into the league, now we have to stay there and keep the performances going on the field."

Pre-season training begins on Wednesday, July 14, at 7pm at the Ashes Playing Field and all players are welcome.
