DOUBLE New Age Kurling world champion, Cliff Woolas, was right on target when he set new a world record in the sport.
Cliff, who is the only person to have won the world championship in successive years, set himself a six-hour period in which to land as many kurling stones on the centre white.
His attempt, at Goole Leisure Centre last Wednesday, saw him land 796 on target, as well as raising £104 for Children in Need in the process.
“I am really pleased with this. I have managed to set a record that will certainly take some matching,” said a delighted but exhausted Cliff, who added that the challenge had taken a lot out of him.
“It was a lot harder than I expected. I could hardly walk afterwards.”
And he had high praise for those who helped him achieve his success.
“It would have been impossible without the help of the volunteers and I must offer them a huge thank you.”
Cliff is now gearing up to defend his world champion title at this year’s competition, which is to be held in Windsor in early May.
