No shade for late summer sizzler

With the temperature at 24 degrees in the shade, it was a late summer sizzler as Selby’s second string rugby union team travelled to north Leeds for a friendly against their old rivals Leodiensians.
Unfortunately there was no shade on the pitch and the sun took its toll, though the Swans weren’t far off the mark.
However, the whole game was played with uncontested scrums, and the end result might well have been different otherwise.
As it was, Andy Wass kindly volunteered to play for Leos when the hosts could only initially muster 13 players. Selby did well with the possession they had and scored via a good line of running from Niklin who later added a second try. Old stalwart Godfrey also charged over the line, but the uncontested scrums meant the strong Selby forwards were unable to insert pressure in the right place, though the backs got some good ball from the lineouts.
