'Not good enough'
GOOLE AFC manager Karl Rose had admitted he is already starting to plan for next season following his side's third consecutive defeat.
The Vikings were beaten 2-1 at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds on Tuesday night after Grantham Town snatched an 88th minute winner despite the home side taking a first half lead.
This followed on from last Saturday's disappointing 3-1 defeat at lowly Quorn where the visitors gave themselves a mountain to climb in the second half.
Once again Goole held their own in the opening exchanges only to find themselves 3-0 down by half-time.
Top-scorer Gavin Allott reduced arrears in the second half and with the striker also scoring against Grantham, his total is now 17 for the season.
This is one of the few positives to come out of a deeply disappointing campaign, though, with Goole now 18th in the Unibond League First Division South.
And despite there being little chance of his side getting sucked into a relegation dogfight, Rose was despondent when assessing his team's prospects.
He said: "There's a lack of confidence and we don't seem to be playing as a team. On Saturday we were very poor in the first half and then world-beaters in the second half. On Tuesday it was the other way round but you can't just play for 45 minutes."
Rose was also very candid in telling a few home truths for his under-performing side.
He added: "Some are just not good enough and not performing for 90 minutes week in, week out, that's the simple truth. The back-up players we have are just not good enough and it's a damning report but that's the way it is.
"Some are in a bit of a comfort zone and have been found out - I have told them in no uncertain terms either start performing or I will get someone who wants to be there."
Rose assured supporters he is looking to mould his team around a spine of about six players but it is proving difficult to attract new blood until the current season ends.
He added: "I am in discussions with players at other clubs but nothing can be done until the end of the season. It's difficult times to be a Goole fan and it's not nice getting beat but there are ten games left and I want to win as many as possible."
Next up is Saturday's home clash with mid-table Market Drayton, 3pm kick off.
