Pollington win Arthur Brant Trophy

POLLINGTON Cricket Club went one better this year by defeating Hirst Courtney in the final of the Arthur Brant Trophy.

Having lost to Carlton Towers in the previous year, the team were determined to take home the trophy this year.

Hirst opened batting and found it difficult to score quick runs with the pace of Tim Weaver and Chris Wellburn.

Wickets fell regularly making it difficult for Hirst to gain momentum through their innings and finished on 131 for 6 with S Dunn and R Stones scoring 43 and 32 respectively.

Pollington took to the crease with the in-form Scott Hopkinson and Paul Barnes. Good running and positive hitting by the pair saw them chase down the runs quickly.

With his rapid fire 76, Scott Hopkinson was finally caught leaving Paul Barnes (46) and Chris Wellburn to steer the side to victory for the loss of just one wicket.

Scott Hopkinson with his two wickets and top score was the obvious choice for man of the match.

Pollington captain Adam Slater collected the trophy from Jim Smith of the Snaith & District Cricket League.
