Promotion ambitions stay on track
Brayton FC.......................................3
Huntsman........................................ 2
Blackwell scored on his full debut and was also involved in the decider as gale-force winds failed to snuff out Brayton’s promotion ambitions in a hotly contested derby at Denison Road, writes Stephen Curry.
As Ward and McGuiness missed golden opportunities for the hosts, the Drax side started strongly with Featherstone forced into a brace of saves from long range.
But the Hunters duly hit their target with a well-placed header from a set-piece. Brayton responded immediately, however, with Blackwell latching onto a Ward through ball.
And though the Drax men regained the lead, Brayton drew level with the pick of the goals which saw man of the match Dale Holt smashing home an unstoppable drive from 25 yards.
Good work from Blackwell then released Louis Chappell to score, thus closing the gap on league leaders Bishopthorpe who are now only one point clear.
