Rangers' eleven-goal blitz sees them into semis

Oddfellows Arms 1 Victoria Rangers 11

RANGERS comfortably progressed into the semi-finals of the David Lloyd Cup last Sunday.

The game started brightly with both teams going forward and creating chances, but it was Rangers who took the lead with Jamie Jackson opening the scoring when he hammered home a Jason Newman cross.

After an own goal, Matty Whitaker made it 3-0 with a solo run and a strike into the bottom corner from 10 yards.

A Jackson cross was bravely headed home by Neil Huntington for goal number four; this was followed by another own goal and further goals by Huntington and Rob Constable to give a half-time scoreline of 0-7.

In the second period the Gers continued to pile on the pressure and soon scored again when Huntington set up Jackson to score the eighth and his brace.

As Vic eased up a little, the home side came more into the game with the visiting keeper James Hewson making a couple of good saves, but Oddfellows did score for their consolation goal. Rangers came back with the home keeper making a number of saves, but could not prevent the visitors scoring further goals, firstly from Huntington who completed his hat-trick from a Jackson cross. Jason Greaves got on the score sheet when his 20-yard volley trickled over the line after the keeper had let it go through his arms and legs. Huntington completed the scoring with his quick thinking volley for his fourth goal and Vic's eleventh.

The Mansfield Brewery man of the match went to Rob Constable.

This Sunday, Rangers are at home to Rawcliffe United at Western Road, kick off 10.30am.
