Road victims remembered
Selby-based Mickey’s Boxing Academy will be staging their first show of the 2012/13 season at the Eggborough Sports Complex on Friday October 26.
The event is being held in memory of Phil Cleary and Beanie Smith, who both died tragically on the roads, and will also raise money for Cancer Research.
Phil, who was killed in a motorbike accident just two days after his wedding, brought his kids to the academy’s Douglas Street gym while Beanie, who recently died in a car crash aged just 15, also had connections with the club. Her brother boxed for them last season and her three cousins are still involved.
Tickets are £10 and are available from the gym as well as from the Beckenzi Inc Tattoo Studio on Flaxley Road. Early booking is advisable as previous shows have been sold out. Doors open at 7pm with bouts starting at 8pm.
The growing club is a not-for-profit organisation run by volunteers and is widening its influence in the boxing community.
Businesses wishing to sponsor the show bouts should call head coach Mickey Bradshaw on 0779 086 7797.
