Rose filled with confidence after Glapwell clash
"BRING them on" is the rallying cry from Goole AFC manager Karl Rose following a battling draw with title contenders Glapwell.
The Vikings played out an entertaining 2-2 draw with the Derbyshire outfit on Tuesday night, breaching the league's meanest defence twice in the first 23 minutes.
Top scorer Gavin Allott netted a brace with a smart strike from ten yards early on and then a fine passing move from the home side saw the lead doubled by the targetman before half an hour was on the clock.
Indeed Allott could have claimed a first half hat-trick as he saw one effort hit the post and another go narrowly wide.
But the proverbial 'game of two halves' took shape after the break.
Glapwell got back into it when the home side failed to deal with a corner on 55 minutes and Ian Brown found the net.
And disaster struck when captain Lee Stratford was dismissed with 20 minutes to go for a professional foul in the box - Matt Varley tucking the penalty away to draw the visitors level.
However the closing stages of the game saw both sides chase a winner with Goole hitting the woodwork and Rose reflecting on what might have been.
He said: "We have got to put teams to bed. We came out sloppy at the start of the second half and lost a bit of shape in midfield. For 90 per cent of the game we were there but it's that 10 per cent where we gave them a sniff.
"We had to regroup after their second goal and I thought we were the better side after that - we just need to be a bit smarter as footballers. They know what I want, I want them to pass the ball and create chances."
The result follows on from last Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Sheffield FC, another promotion-chasing side who took a first-half lead and effectively ended the contest with two goals in three minutes just after the break.
Goole now sit in 14th position of the Unibond League First Division South ahead of Saturday's home game against Leek Town who sit just above them in the table.
Added Rose: "I am looking forward to it. Bring them on and we will have a go and we will be going for a win."
Skipper Stratford sits out Saturday's game with an automatic one match ban but striker Adam Lee returnes from his recent suspension.
l Kick off is 3pm.
