Rugby League: Champions Doncaster Dons get set to party with civic bash
We are the champions: The Dons will be partying in style with a civic reception in their honour.
The all-conquering Doncaster Dons are to celebrate their historic title-winning season with a parade and civic reception.
Doncaster’s rugby league champs have enjoyed a glittering campaign after sealing both the Championship One title and Grand Final titles – the first time in the club’s history the side have picked up silverware.
And they are to be rewarded for their sterling efforts with a parade through the town and civic reception next weekend.
Players and coach Tony Miller will set off for an open-top bus tour from the Keepmoat Stadium before arriving at the Mansion House where they will be greeted by Mayor Peter Davies on the building’s steps along with their waiting families and friends.
The parade next Saturday will get under way from outside the stadium at 11.15am and then make its way to the Mansion House along Lakeside Boulevard, Gliwice Way, Bawtry Road, Bennetthorpe, South Parade, Waterdale, Wood Street, Printing Office Street, Priory Place and High Street, before arriving at the Mansion House at approximately 11.30am.
The players will be available to chat to fans and sign autographs and both the Mayor and Dons’ chief executive Carl Hall will address the crowd, with other officials also expected to take to the microphone.
The focus will then move inside the Mansion House.
Coach Tony Miller’s title-winning team will pose for photographs on the main staircase before proceeding to the main ballroom for a buffet reception with their families then stepping out onto the balcony to soak up the cheers of the crowd.
The bus will then take the players back to the Keepmoat Stadium.
The Dons will play in the Championship next season after their 16-13 Grand Final win over Barrow Raiders last Sunday at Warrington.
