Runners get set
More than 200 runners are getting set for this Sunday’s Wistow 10K which has attracted entries from as far as Durham in the north to London in the south.
And with a huge 60-year age range from 16 to 76 keen to tackle the Selby Striders’ flagship event, many of the runners are not affiliated to clubs, but are simply running for their own challenge and enjoyment.
The distance has been scaled down from 10 miles to 10km – a fraction over six miles – to make it more accessible for local people not wishing too daunting a challenge.
Race organiser Dave Kellett explained: “We hope to put the race in everyone’s calendar as a place where you are running to achieve what is best for you on a fast course over a distance that everyone can complete, with all the support a local club and community can provide.”
This will be accompanied by facilities including car parking, refreshments and local sponsorship coupled with a UK Athletics licensed run that ensures all times will be logged on the national runners’ database.
Sports editor Charles Gardner has had to pull out due to a preaching engagement.
