Shot down in the wind

Rodley Rockets 6

Warriors......... 34

Having knocked up 24 unanswered points after deciding to use the elements in the first half, Selby’s second string rugby league side weathered a late storm from the hosts before sealing a great win in gale-force conditions.

They thus kept up the pressure on Pennine League Division 7 leaders Thornhill ahead of the latter’s crucial visit to the Webster’s Timber ground last Saturday.

The opening try came from the ever-improving Dane Skelton who dived over in the corner after some great passing from half-back Paul Berriman. And veteran Andy Rowe followed up by diving under the post as Warriors totally dominated.

With forwards Bell and Sullivan taking the game to the Rodley pack, Dan Wagstaff scooted under the posts before Bobby Parish scored on the stroke of half-time. The Rockets then came out all guns blazing as they got back in the game with a good try, but Aiden Makey subsequently killed the game off with an interception try before Ryan Wagstaff completed the rout.
