Supermoto podium spot for biker Harrison
GOOLE teen rider Oliver Harrison beat off competition from across the globe to take a podium spot in a competiiton last weekend.
The 15-year-old, of Kirkham Court, took part in the British Round of the S3 class in the World Supermoto Championship held at Mallory Park in Leicestershire.
The event, which was televised and is due to appear on Motors TV this month, was held alongside the British round of the World Motocross Championships.
Harrison started the day well on his Skyzone Racing/Trevor Pope-tuned KTM SXF 250 being very competitive in the practice sessions and when it came to qualifying he produced a 1m.05s:494.
This was the fastest time until Kevin Wuerterle (Germany) put in a 1.05:022 on lap 15, beating him into second in class.
The S3 and the open class bikes are mixed and Harrison was placed on position 17 on the grid for the start.
He got off well and stayed in second place behind Wuerterle until lap 4 when Harrison jumped past him on the triple jump in the off road section and stayed in the lead until lap 13.
Wuerterle made a block pass on Harrison in one of the off road section corners.
A lap later in the same corner Wuerterle made a mistake and Harrison needed no invitation to take the lead to win race one.
In race two Harrison got a blistering start and went straight into the lead, Wuerterle was in second spot and the Bulgarian Angel Karanyotov running in third.
Harrison led for the first 15 laps with the Bulgarian and the German chasing hard. Harrison made a mistake in the Sky zone section and the Karanyotov came past into the lead and the Goole rider was then unable to match his pace and finished second.
The Howden Senior School pupil is now in third place in the S3 championship trailing by just ten points behind Wuerterle the leader.
The next round is to be held in Italy on July 12.
