Thorpe boy’s Paralympic treat

Thorpe Willoughby’s young sporting hero Carter Sellars has been rewarded for his charity runs with a memorable visit to London for the Paralympics.
The eleven-year-old has run a series of distance runs to raise money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance since they were called out on his behalf when he was suspected of having broken his pelvis during a football match at Malton for Thorpe United U11s.
Fortunately it wasn’t as bad as first thought, and when he learnt that they rely totally on donations, he decided to help out himself once he’d recovered, and has done so with panache.
So his parents treated him to a thrilling trip which included watching ‘murderball’ (wheelchair rugby), boccia, table tennis, volleyball, athletics, fencing and seeing 15-year-old Josef Craig beat the world record as he won a swimming gold!
He also met professional football freestyler Dan Magness as well as some of the Chinese Paralympic team, with whom he is pictured (front, right) at the Horse Guards’ Parade.
