Tigers face tough opponents after break, but gain upper hand
Goole Town Tigers U10s 3 Barlby 1
AFTER a seven week break from competitive play the Tigers returned with a tough match against a team they always seem to struggle to get the better of.
Before the break Barlby found a corner their way and a scrappy loose ball giving them a chance to go one up.
In the second half the Goole side had the wind on their backs which seemed to help but once again numerous chances first Sharman had one just wide again followed by the cross bar.
Jordan Francis was close as he headed a cross from Sharman over the top.
Ewan Derby played a most important part in today's match with his strong midfield play and feeding good chances to the strikers.
Hunt picked a midfield loose ball and almost pulled level with his long shot but was tipped over by the Barlby keeper.
It was getting late in the match and was looking like the game was lost when another Derby supplied chance came to Sharman and this time he made sure with his right foot to rescue the score back to a draw.
It seemed the wind was now in the Tigers sails and Harvey took a corner over on the left and curled the ball into the net using the wind superbly to give a goal lead.
Barlby were back on the attack two more times but Jack Pepper was far too superior and made two spectacular saves to keep the Tigers in front.
In the last minute the Tigers won another corner on the left and naturally Harvey stepped up and took in similar fashion to the last one and with help from a boot of Francis and it was three to Goole.
Man of the match went to Liam Harvey for his excellent contribution.
* In the friendly seven-a-side game, Tigers had more attack but didn't finish well.
Up to the end of the half the only goal came as Brown fed Sharman and again this left footer scored with his right.
In the second half Barlby came out determined and very soon pulled back level.
Broughton showed what quality crosses he was capable when with four minutes remaining he took a corner for Goole and found Evens head and his flick on put the ball to Derby's foot to score and take the lead.
The remainder was Brown defending well and Geldard made two more top saves. Final score: Tigers 2, Barlby 1.
The man of the match went to Corey Brown for his top work in defence.

Ulleskelf 0
TIGERS played most of their football in the Ulleskelf half with pressing runs from Whiteley on the right backed up by attacking defender Redshaw.
Goole's first real attempt on goal came from a Whiteley and Noon combination on the right to eventually lay the ball into the path of Redshaw who took the ball in his stride and smashed home from just outside the area.
The early goal is always a good settler and from that point on there was only one team in this contest. Redshaw picked up his second following a Whiteley corner as he guided his header into the far top corner leaving the keeper rooted.
The away team's heads were starting to drop and Mitchell Parkinson benefitted from a poor goal kick to round the keeper and slot home into an empty net.
Three goals to the good at half time Goole thought they could grab a few more in the second half and they weren't wrong.
A Noon through ball played Parkinson in one v one on the keeper and he smashed home grabbing his second and the Tigers fourth.
Noon was next on the score sheet as a rebounded shot dropped to his feet which he slotted home with no problem.
The final goal of the game came from the boot of Noon as Goole were awarded a free kick 18 yards from goal which was placed with power and precision into the top corner leaving the keeper no chance.
Goole Town Tigers 2
Ulleskelf 3
Ulleskelf came out looking for revenge after the first game and it wasn’t long before they went one up. Jack Raspin drove forward running from defence at every opportunity to send a telling ball through to Haigh who is in a rich vein of goal scoring form at the moment to see him drive the ball home to level the scores.
Ulleskelf then threw caution to the wind and really pressed the Goole team back into their half scoring two quick fire goals before half time.
A change of players and positions saw Clarkson take up the goalkeeper’s position, Noon, Whiteley and Parkinson on to bolster the team as they chased the game.
Goole managed to steady the ship not conceding any further goals and scored a second themselves after good work in the midfield from Brown who worked an opening to drive his shot home halving the deficit.
