Tigers net victory as fine form continues

Goole Town Tigers 2 Garforth Villa 1 (SDJFL)

ON PAPER this Selby District Junior league game looked to be a tough one as both sides are on a great run of form.

A reshuffled Tigers team, due to illness, saw Keegan Whiteley take the central midfield role and Jack Raspin deployed on the right to use his pace going forward to get at the Garforth defence.

Goole once again set off at a frantic pace and pressured Garforth in their own half with Mitchell Parkinson leading by example at the front to put the defence under pressure.

He was eagerly backed up by the new look midfield of Raspin, Whiteley and Bayston.

It took Goole just two minutes to gain the advantage following a neat interchange from Redshaw and Whiteley to lay the ball to striker Parkinson, who guided his right foot shot from the edge of the area neatly past the outstretched 'keeper.

The early goal eased the nerves and Goole began to play their football at their pace.

Garforth were never going to be a team to lay down and they came at Goole on several occasions.

The outstanding defence of Longthorp and Redshaw, who seem to be able to read the game really well to take up position, thwarted any attack.

With Longthorp covering, Goole launched many attacks from the back as Redshaw weaved his magic, running the ball out of defence to set Goole on the front foot again.

Henry Bayston made some surging runs forward and went close to doubling the lead.

A free kick awarded to Goole just inside the Garforth half gave Longthorp the chance to pile drive the ball only to see it rebound and drop to the reliable feet of Bayston who sent a right foot shot into the top corner leaving the 'keeper no chance.

Garforth came out after the break chasing the game and managed to create a few half chances, one occasion being one on one against Lodge in the Tigers goal so see him make a full length dive to his right and parry the shot round the post for a corner.

Garforth pulled a late consolation back to make a hectic end for the game but Goole tightened up to take the win.

A DETERMINED Keegan Whiteley powers down the wing for Goole.
