Top morning for football
Goole Town Tigers JFC U9s 4 Pollington 2 (SDJFL Friendly)
A FROSTY start for the young Goole team as they played host to Pollington Panthers for the first encounter this season between the two teams. The game was in doubt an hour before kick-off due to a frozen pitch. As the sun came out it was a great morning for football.
Pollington were fast out of the blocks as they caught the Goole team cold with a quick-fire attack as their pacey striker was through and bearing down on goal but Lodge was on top of his game today, first diving down low to his left and then quickly back on his feet to parry the rebound. After a shaky start to which Pollington could have been two or three goals to the good, Goole began to settle into the game, although not at their best the Tigers were doing enough to keep the Panthers on the back foot. The breakthrough came after 5 minutes of end-to-end action following a neat interchange from Whiteley and Noon who squared the ball to Bayston to see him switch the ball to his favoured left foot and fire the ball into the top left corner leaving the keeper routed. Goole doubled their lead in as many minutes as defender Redshaw weaved his way through a crowded area to make way for a shot which the keeper managed to get his hands to, only to see the ball drop just over the goal-line to the disbelief of the away supporters. Pollington feeling hard done by came at Goole with pace and determination and managed to catch the Goole team too high up the pitch to slot home and claw a goal back. The wind now in their sails, the Panthers were scrapping for everything they could get.
With a frantic start to the second half Goole managed to work some good possession down the right with Whiteley and Parkinson combining well. Parkinson used his trickery to go past two defenders and win a corner for Goole. Whiteley crossed an inch perfect ball for Ryan Noon to dart in between two defenders and guide his header past the out-stretched keeper into the top corner. Pollington never gave up the fight and brought another good save from Lodge in the Tigers goal following a free-kick just outside the area. The Panthers were rewarded for their efforts with a goal, making the deficit down to one goal. The match was wrapped up with a fine piece of individual skill following a long goal-kick, Parkinson brought the ball down under control to beat two defenders and place his shot past the on-rushing keeper.

Pollington 2 (SDJFL Friendly)
WITH the pitch thawing out fast the second game got underway with a re-jigged team. Redshaw took the keeper's jersey and it wasn't long before he had his hands warmed following a Panthers attack. The Goole defence of Harrison and Raspin were going to be busy as Pollington pushed from all areas of the pitch. Goole stuck to the task with midfield trio Brown, Clarkson and Haigh working hard to counter-attack the Pollington advances. A well worked ball played Bayston in to smash his shot goal ward for the keeper to make a good save, but the ball dropped to Brown 2 yards out to tap home. Straight from the re-start Clarkson played a good ball to Bayston who smashed home from the right hand side. Harrison once again made some telling interceptions in the Tigers defence alongside Raspin. The best move of the game for Goole's third goal, came after Raspin robbed the ball from a Pollington attacker, looked up and played down the line to Martin Haigh who easily out-paced the midfield and defence to line himself up for a shot at goal only to see it re-bound off the crossbar and drop to the on-hand Brown to tap home. Pollington decided to make a game of it with two unanswered goals making it 3-2 to Goole who rallied the storm and managed to see the game out.
