Triumphant trio for Goole
GOOLE under 8s opened 2013 with two wins from three in a tag rugby triple-header against Driffield.
A cold day and a muddy pitch last Sunday proved to be perfect for the home side, whose two victories sandwiched a narrow defeat.
The first game was won by Goole 8-5, with Josh Priestley grabbing the headlines with a well-taken hat-trick.
Others to score were Ben Hatton, Charlie Wilcox, Joe Green, Lucas Walton and Luke Brigham in an impressive start to the afternoon.
The second tussle was a much tighter affair with Driffield opening the scoring only for Cole Barker to level proceedings.
Despite a spirited display from Goole, the visitors secured a 2-1 win thanks to a try just before half-time.
The two teams certainly saved the best until last with a 17-try finale, that saw Goole prosper 9-8.
Frankie Read and Priestley both scored a brace whilst other scores were added from Sam Wood, Walton and Hatton.
Despite trailing late on, the hosts snatched a dramatic victory when Brigham added two late tries to complete a memorable afternoon.
Ben Hatton was named the player of the day with prolific Priestley being named overall player of the day after his five-try salvo.
