Vaults climb to the top after comfortable victory
Albion Vaults hit the league summit for the first time this season after a hard-working display at York RI.
Having played York just a fortnight ago, Albion knew they were in for a tough morning and without a number of players, they were dealt a further blow when Dan Hewitt was also unavailable.
Despite the reshuffle, which included a return for Dave Reasbeck who had been out for three months, Albion ran out 3-1 winners on their travels.
The game was nip and tuck without much goalmouth action before Albion got into their stride and created several half-chances that the York keeper was equal to.
Albion then broke the deadlock after a mazy run from Dave Hullah saw him brought down in the area. The midfielder dusted himself down to confidently fire Albion ahead from the spot.
York attempted to level the scores, however, Albion burst out of the blocks in the second half - soon doubling their lead. The move saw the ball fed into Ash Smith who played in Darren Rollinson and he curled the ball into the far corner.
York got themselves back into the game when a quick break saw Albion short at the back-post with the host’s striker making no mistake.
Paul Tanton saw his header sail over the bar before Albion managed to restore their two-goal advantage.
The unmarked Craig Hewitt powered down the middle of the pitch and ran on to Tanton’s pass before clipping the ball into the top corner.
Dan Ferguson replaced Rollinson and had a glorious chance to open his account for Albion, but he dragged his effort wide.
Man of the match was awarded to Ash Smith as Albion climbed to the top of the YSML Division Three.
