Vikings slayed in Lancashire

Goole AFC’s fight for survival took a big knock with defeat to Ramsbottom United.
The Vikings, who had given themselves a massive boost with a recent win over local rivals Ossett Town, were beaten in Lancashire in their quest to retain their position in the Evo-Stik League Northern Premier First Division.
And this Saturday sees Goole heading back to Lancashire to face runaway league leaders Skelmersdale United.
New signing Jack Wakefield, captured from NCEL side Hemsworth Miners Welfare, was available for Wayne Benn’s side for the trip to Ramsbottom with the midfielder taking a spot on the bench.
However, Goole did not have the best of starts as United striker Jon Robinson netted for the hosts with barely ten minutes played.
A determined display from Goole saw the equaliser come from Bill Law who capitalised on a Ramsbottom error to score in the 17th minute.
However, Robinson proved the thorn in Goole’s side as he scored the winner just after 70 minutes.
