White Rosy future for junior cricket

The future of cricket at Selby looks secure judging by the success of its junior section which was feted at a frosty annual presentation evening held at the Sandhill Lane club.

There has been an increase in numbers attending nets, especially at U9s level, while a number of U13 and U15 players turned out for senior teams.

Trophies were presented by Yorkshire fast bowler Oliver Hannon-Dalby, who also held a question and answer session, and a packed Selby RUFC clubhouse enjoyed a review from each team – also involving U11s – as well as an Olympic-themed quiz.

“With the numbers increasing, the future looks secure for Selby Cricket Club,” said junior coach Ashley Heeley, who added: “The club took the opportunity to thank everyone involved from groundstaff, caterers, parents and coaches to players, who all contributed to a successful and enjoyable season.”

The Unison award went to the U15s for their unbeaten league season as well as for reaching the cup semi-finals. And a special mention went to Alex Bowden and Elliott Precious on their selection for the Lord’s Taverners.

Other winners and trophy sponsors were as follows: U11 batting Will Rich (Ian Lake), bowling Dan Toone (R & N Landscapes), team man Nathan Gorst (Kevin Rich) and most improved Patrick Harpham (RF Landscapes); U13A batting Henry Wright (Tom Pearson), bowling Sam Pocklington (David Haynes), team man Joseph Burrows (Andy Nicholson) and most improved Oliver Steward (Steve Cruise); U15 batting Alex Bowden (Matthew Hoyle), bowling Ben Steward (Aiden Pearce), team man Patrick Taylor (Mel Neary) and most improved Kieran Heeley (Eddie Wharram).
